1. Who we are
Conway Building Co (ABN 41 675 987 194) ("we", "us", "our") is a building and construction business operating in New South Wales, Australia. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information we hold about you.
This policy explains how we handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). It applies to information we collect through our website at www.conwaybuildingco.com, our social media pages, enquiry and quote forms, phone and email, and in the course of carrying out building work.
2. Information we collect
The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with us. It may include:
Contact details — your name, phone number, email address, and postal or site address.
Project details — information about the work you're enquiring about, such as the property, plans, budget range, and timeframes.
Quote and job records — correspondence, estimates, contracts, variations, invoices, and payment details relating to work we carry out for you.
Site information — photographs, measurements, and notes taken during site visits and the course of a build.
Website and enquiry data — information you submit through online forms, and technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited (see Cookies & website data).
We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our business functions. You do not have to provide it, but if you don't, we may not be able to quote for or carry out your work.
3. How we collect it
Wherever practical, we collect personal information directly from you — for example when you call or email us, submit an enquiry or quote request, respond to one of our social media advertisements, or engage us for a project.
We may also collect information from third parties where you'd reasonably expect us to, such as referrals from past clients, architects, designers, or subcontractors, and from lead forms provided through advertising platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
4. How we use it
We use personal information to:
respond to your enquiries and prepare quotes and estimates;
carry out, manage, and invoice building work;
communicate with you about your project, including scheduling and updates;
manage suppliers, subcontractors, and our own business records;
meet our legal, insurance, tax, and workplace health and safety obligations; and
send you marketing about our services, where you'd reasonably expect it or have agreed to receive it (you can opt out at any time).
We will only use your information for the purpose we collected it, a directly related purpose you'd reasonably expect, or where you've consented or the law requires it.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with third parties where it's necessary to do our work or run our business, including:
subcontractors, suppliers, and trades engaged on your project;
consultants such as architects, engineers, certifiers, and surveyors;
our accounting, project-management, and software providers (including our building-management software);
government bodies, councils, and certifiers where required for approvals or compliance; and
professional advisers, insurers, or as otherwise required or authorised by law.
We take reasonable steps to ensure these parties handle your information consistently with this policy and the APPs.
6. Marketing & social advertising
We advertise our services on platforms including Facebook and Instagram (operated by Meta). If you contact us through a social media lead form or advertisement, we collect the details you submit so we can respond to your enquiry.
These platforms may also use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies to show our advertisements to you and to people with similar interests, and to measure how our ads perform. This activity is governed by the platform's own privacy policy as well as ours.
You can opt out of our marketing at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us directly. You can also manage ad preferences within your Facebook, Instagram, or Google account settings.
7. Cookies & website data
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to help it function, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use the site. We may use analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) and advertising pixels (such as the Meta Pixel) that collect anonymised or de-identified usage data.
Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. If you disable cookies, some parts of our website may not work as intended.
8. Storage & security
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. This includes secure digital storage, access controls, and using reputable software providers.
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law (for example, tax, contract, and building-record retention obligations). When it's no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to securely destroy or de-identify it.
9. Overseas disclosure
Some of the service providers we use (for example, cloud software, email, and advertising platforms) may store or process data on servers located outside Australia. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
10. Access & correction
You have the right to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it's inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before we act on your request, and in some cases the law allows us to decline access — if so, we'll explain why.
11. Complaints
If you believe we've mishandled your personal information or breached the Australian Privacy Principles, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. We'll acknowledge your complaint and respond within a reasonable time.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
