Oxley Drive

Our Oxley Drive project involved the construction of a first-floor addition above an existing garage and studio, purpose designed to operate as a fully self-contained Airbnb accommodation capable of comfortable full time living. The design intent was to maximise functionality and amenity while working strictly within the existing building footprint.

The original first floor structure was demolished while retaining the existing garage walls below. New structural floor joists and wall framing were installed, and the external wall heights were raised to achieve compliant ceiling heights and create a genuinely liveable upper level.

The new accommodation includes a bathroom and kitchenette, allowing the space to function independently from the main residence. A pitched ceiling lined with timber V-joint boards was introduced to enhance volume, warmth, and architectural character throughout the interior.

The bathroom features marble tiles, underfloor heating, and an openable skylight with an integrated rain sensor to maximise natural light and ventilation. Underfloor heating was also installed throughout the kitchenette, with French pattern tiles selected to continue seamlessly from the interior through to the adjoining patio, strengthening the indoor outdoor connection.

Timber double hung and fixed windows, along with timber French doors, were used throughout to complement the existing building and maximise light and airflow. Externally, a new timber pergola and handrail define the patio space, creating a private and functional outdoor area suitable for both short and long term stays.

Conway Building Co also completed the external landscaping works to fully integrate the studio into the site. This included the construction of a sandstone fire pit area, along with a garden path leading to the new studio, finished with sandstone pavers and integrated garden lighting to enhance both functionality and evening ambience.

The completed project delivers a refined, standalone studio that combines thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, and cohesive indoor outdoor living, providing a highly functional accommodation solution while adding long-term value to the property.
